Armed Forces Day

Ramsgate Armed Forces Day...

...Took place on Saturday 25 June in Ramsgate Royal Harbour. A marching contingent from 2433 (Ramsgate and Manston) Squadron joined Regular and Reserve service personnel, Veterans and other Cadet Forces in marking this special event, celebrating the work of the Armed Forces today.

The parade began at The Sailors Church in Ramsgate Royal Harbour, marched through the harbour, halting at the King George IV obelisk where a drumhead service was held.

The obelisk commemorates the granting of Royal status to the harbour in 1821 when the King used the harbour to travel to and from the continent.

The parade then marched past the Mayor of Ramsgate in front of the Ramsgate Town Council offices at Customs House. The parade was led by The Band of The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment.

As well as a marching contingent, Sergeant Pateman accompanied Wing Commander Thorpe RAF, in her first duty as the Defence Fire Training & Development Centre's Commandants Cadet and Corporal May accompanied Councillor Trevor Shonk as Mayor of Ramsgate's Cadet.
