2433 Squadron Badge

As part of 2433 (Ramsgate & Manston) Squadron's 50th Anniversary celebrations, it was decided to formalise the Squadron badge.  For many years, the Sqn has used the unofficial 'Casper' badge designed by a former Sqn member, Ted Whitehead.

The initial design was drawn up during 2014 and submitted to the Sqn Badges Special Projects Officer at Headquarters Air Cadets, Flt Lt John Tunesi, who then submitted an essay to the Royal Air Force Ceremonial Office at RAF Northolt.  Once approved, the initial design was sent to the College of Arms.  The college is responsible for the creation and control of all heraldic arms in the UK as well as all official military unit badges across all three armed services.

The Garter King of Arms is the Inspector of Royal Air Force Badges and after final completion, approved the new badge in March 2015.

The badge draws on the heraldic heritage of both Royal Air Force Station Manston and the town of Ramsgate.  It features aspects from the station badge and the town coat of arms the Blazon (or description) is as follows:

'Issuing out of a Naval Crown Or from behind a representation of Ramsgate lighthouse in the doorway a Ghost proper two wings conjoined in lure Gules'.

The Squadron motto is 'Spirit'.
