2433 Squadron

No. 2433 (Ramsgate & Manston) Squadron is relatively young in comparison to a lot of Air Cadet Squadrons having been formed on 1 September 1965.

That said, there have been Air Cadets in and around Ramsgate and Manston since the late 1930's when No. 438 (Thanet) Squadron was formed, based in Margate. 438 Sqn had a number of Detached Flights (DF) including the town of Ramsgate and the villages of Manston and Minster.  The image on the left below is a section of an honours board dating from World War 2 showing A & B (Margate) Flights, C & D (Ramsgate) Flights and E (Minster) Flight of  No. 438 (Thanet) Squadron.

As time passed and after World War 2, some of those Flights ceased to exist but the Ramsgate DF began to thrive.  It is beleived that the Flight was originally based at the old Ramsgate Airport, which is now long gone.  On 1 September 1965, No. 2433 (Ramsgate) Squadron was formed at the airport before moving to RAF Manston within a year.

The Sqn has been a proud resident of RAF Manston ever since, enjoying the support of the Royal Air Force and now Ministry of Defence and in turn, playing an important part in the life of the unit, supporting activities and events.

2433 Squadron has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the busiest and most active in Kent and has facilities that are unsurpassed within the Wing. The Sqn continues to develop and offer many varied and exciting opprtunities to both cadets and staff.

The year 2015 saw 2433 Sqn celebrate its 50th anniversary.  The Sqn commemorated this important milestone in a number of different ways.  Please click on our 50th anniversary page to read more.
