50th Anniversary Dinner

50th Anniversary Dinner...

...Cadets, staff, Civilian Committee and honoured guests gathered at the Combined Officers, Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess at the Defence Fire Training & Development Centre, Manston on Saturday 28th March for a 50th Anniversary dinner.

The Guest of Honour was Wing Commander Chris Thorpe RAF, Commandant DFTDC and we were also joined by Councillor Patricia Moore, Worhipful town Mayor of Ramsagate and her Mayoress; Mr Frank David OStJ QFSM, Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Firefighters; Wing Commander Russ Goodayle RAFVR(T), Officer Commanding Kent Wing Air Cadets and Flight Lieutenant Dave Hougham RAFVR(T) (Ret'd), former 2433 Squadron commander.

Many cadets, staff and Civilian Committee members attended and a great meal was had by all followed by a disco in the ante-room.

Messages were read from absent friends and a message of congratulations from Her Majesty The Queen was read out by the Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Geoff Hobbs-East RAFVR(T).

During the dinner the new squadron badge, created for us by the College of Arms, was unveiled by Wing Commander Thorpe and the Mayor of Ramsgate. The badge combines elements from the RAF Manston badge and the coat of arms of the town of Ramsgate as well as our own friendly spirit - Casper.

50 years have flown by and we were priviledged to take dinner in the mess to celebrate this important milestone, for which our sincere thanks to Commandant DFTDC.
